Carmelo Anthony has said all the right things, but does he really deserve one more shot in the NBA?
Carmelo Anthony sat down with Stephen A. Smith for a tell all interview on ESPN this past Friday. In an attempt to potentially revive his NBA career, Melo was going to finally tell his side of the story.
In the interview, Melo revealed how the Houston Rockets basically showed him the door after only 10 games and how he was the 4th option in OKC, behind Steven Adams. It was Melo’s most uncovering interview ever. He opened up how he went for the money in Denver and almost leaving the Knicks for the Bulls during free agency back in 2014.
But at the present time, the big question that remains is whether Carmelo Anthony deserves to play in the NBA? Does he fit in with a championship contending team? Can he accept a lesser role or be that last piece a team is looking for?

During the interview, he said all the right things. But did he mean it? Melo has been a ball dominant forward for 16 years in the NBA. A beast in the post that developed a surprisingly good 3-point game. One thing that always stood out to me is something Clyde Frazier said about Melo during a Knicks game.
"“He saw Carmelo as a 25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists per game type of player.” Anthony got the points and rebounds but not the assists."
The way the league is treating Melo reminds me of how they treated Allen Iverson. I mean sports always find a way to force their stars out when they are past their prime. But is Melo on the downside of his career?
Let’s admit it he isn’t the 20-year-old, with cornrows straight from Syracuse, but he’s a 35-year-old that could give your second unit a boost and drop 15 in his sleep.
So does he deserve a chance to be on one of 30 teams with 15 spots each? Yes, I think he can provide leadership to a young team or be a valuable asset to a team looking to get over the hump. Carmelo Anthony isn’t washed up yet. He has something left in the tank and in the right situation could really play a vital role for a playoff team.
However, at the end of the day, the decision isn’t our or even Melo’s to make. There has to be one team out there willing to take on the burden and chance on Melo. With his talent, you’d think there’d be plenty. However, after the hit his reputation has taken, there’s a good chance that we’ve seen the last of Melo in the NBA. Which is extremely unfortunate.
