10. Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks

2018-19 stats: 19.1 ppg, 8.7 assists, 3.1 rebounds

In his rookie season out of Oklahoma last year, Trae Young solidified himself as a franchise piece for the Atlanta Hawks, finishing just behind John Collins in scoring and leading the team in assists. He also finished second in scoring amongst rookies behind only Luka Doncic, while leading first-year players with 8.7 assists per contest.

Coming out of college, a lot of people thought he would just be a 3-point shooter at the NBA level. But as the season went on, Young proved to be a lot more than just a shooter. Although he still shot 32.4 percent from downtown, he didn’t attempt as many 3’s as he did in his college days.

Instead, the youngster relied on his quick handles and athleticism to weave among bigs and finish at the hoop, while also turning into one of the game’s most elite passers. He ended up finishing second in the NBA among point guards in assists, behind only Russell Westbrook. Young was a good passer in college, but no one could have predicted it would become one of his best skills at the NBA level.

As a result of his impressive rookie campaign, Young finished second in the NBA rookie of the year voting behind Luka Doncic. The 20-year-old was also named to the All-NBA rookie first team at the season’s end. He is the ultimate dual-threat on the offensive end with the ability to score from all over the court and facilitate. The Hawks have two exciting franchise pieces with Young and John Collins to lead them in the future.
