NBA: Ranking the top 10 shooting guards heading into the 2019-20 season
2. Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors
Stats 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists
I am picking Klay Thompson here with the thought that he is going to be back before the end of next year. Klay is the Mr Do Everything for the Golden State Warriors. He guards the opponents best player every game, shoots the lights out, and just seems to be getting better and better. Klay is the kind of player that opposing teams cannot leave open ever, no matter how he is shooting.
He is the definition of a streaky shooter, as he could be ice cold from the field for three quarters, and then explode for 12 points in four possessions. If Thompson returns he is easily the second-best shooting guard in the league and if he doesn’t, then I guess I owe everyone an apology for putting him on the 2019-20 top 10 shooting guards list.
1. James Harden, Houston Rockets
Stats: 36.1 points, 7.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds
This one is a no-brainer. James Harden is one of the best players in the NBA and he is by far the best shooting guard in the league. He can score in a multitude of ways. He can shoot, he can get to the basket, he is a great finisher, and he is amazing at getting to the free-throw line.
While Harden leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive side of the ball, he still is just ok enough to not be considered a defensive liability. It is going to be fun to see how he and Russell Westbrook mesh this season, as the Rockets will be must-see TV every game they play. My guess is they both put up huge numbers and the Rockets have a great regular season.
