Power ranking NBA teams based on how well-positioned they are for the future, specifically the 2021-22 season

Like every kid growing up, I loved the summer. Nice weather, no school, and every day was spent by the pool. Now, all I do is sweat too much and watch Little League World Series qualifiers on ESPN 2 because there is nothing else on T.V. during the summer. We’re in the dog days of summer and NBA stories are hard to come by.

But now, football is back, and like many sports fans, I’m excited to have a sport to watch that isn’t baseball. Football coming back is also what gave me the idea for this article. ESPN NFL insiders Louis Riddick, Kevin Seifert, and Field Yates came out with a great article ranking every NFL team (subscription required) for the next three seasons, and I’m doing an NBA version of that here.

The difference is that this isn’t a predictor of what teams will be good FOR the next three years, it’s who will be good IN three years. Really what I’ll be looking at is what rosters seem to be in the best shape for the future, specifically for the 2021-22 season (3 seasons from now).

I for one, am already excited to see how badly I miss on most of these teams, but that’s what makes predicting fun. Let’s dive in. We begin with two teams tied for last place in the league, just like we all would’ve guessed.
