Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings enter the 2019-20 season with the most dynamic young backcourt in the league with Buddy Hield at 26 years of age and De’Aaron Fox at only 21 years of age. Last season the duo combined for 38 points per game.
As the Warriors backcourt of Curry and Thompson and the Blazers backcourt of McCollum and Lillard begin to age out of the league over the next five years, the Kings backcourt seems destined to take the torch as the best backcourt in the league. In addition to their backcourt, the Kings have a young frontcourt of Marvin Bagley and Harry Giles, both under 22 years of age. They also have all five of their first-round picks over the next five years.
With a backcourt that seems primed to take over the title as the best backcourt in the league over the next several years, coupled with a young blossoming frontcourt and a full bevy of draft picks, the Kings should be in position to lift themselves from decades of obscurity to aspirations of a title contention as we approach the 2024-25 season.
Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks acquired injured all-star Kristaps Porzingis right before the trade deadline last season. While he has not played a single game for the Mavericks, the pairing of Porzingis and last year’s Rookie of Year, Luka Doncic, is certainly cause for optimism about the Mavericks future.
Doncic appears to be on his way to superstardom, while Porzingis, aptly nicknamed the unicorn due to his unique skill level at his 7-foot-3 height, was already an all-star prior to tearing his ACL in February of 2018. If Porzingis can return to form following his injury and Doncic can continue his present trajectory, the Mavericks should have one of the most talented duos in the league for years to come.
