With the 2019-20 NBA season in the not too distant future, let’s take a look at potential breakout NBA stars for next year

One of the best things about the NBA is the fact that it is unpredictable, year to year. One particular area where this is clearly evident is when it comes to breakout seasons; players taking a significant leap in their production, often becoming legitimate NBA stars.

Some we see coming. Others catch us by surprise.

So what I wanted to do today was go through my list of NBA players who could be primed for big breakout seasons in 2019-20.

Quick note…

This list will not include players I included in my “bounce back seasons” list or my “players with something to prove” list. A few of these guys are:

Even though I feel any of the players listed above could be primed for a break out year, don’t be mad when you discover they’re not on this list!

So with that out of the way, let’s get into the meat of today’s topic, starting with a few honorable mentions…

Honorable Mentions

Wendell Carter Jr. – Carter had a solid rookie season but was held back by injuries. Look for him to build on the promise he showed if he can stay on the court.

Terry Rozier Despite the bad contract, Rozier should experience a career year in Charlotte due to expanded offensive responsibilities and a lack of many other real weapons on the Hornets’ squad.

Miles Bridges One of the more under-appreciated rookie prospects from last year and another guy who should benefit from increased opportunities and playing time for the Hornets.

Luke Kennard As one of the few pure shooters on the Pistons, Kennard’s maturity and development should be met with an expanded role next year, considering the two-guard has shown flashes of being a legit offensive threat in his first couple of years.

Otto Porter Jr. – After seeing a rejuvenated Porter last year after being traded to the Bulls, expect him to carry that momentum into next year and have his best season so far as a pro.

Now, the main event.
