NBA: 11 players poised for a breakout season in 2019-20
2. Caris LeVert, Brooklyn Nets
Caris LeVert was supposed to have his breakout season this past year and it looked like that was going to happen as to start the season, as he was averaging close to 19 points per contest before suffering a horrific leg injury, which would keep him out of action until February.
Even though it took him some time for him to regain his form after recovering from his injury, we did see flashes of an explosive LeVert again towards the latter portion of the regular season and in the playoffs.
During the Brooklyn Nets‘ highly competitive playoff series with the Philadelphia 76ers, LeVert was arguably the best and most efficient player for the team. For the series, LeVert averaged 21 points and five rebounds per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 52 percent from 3-point range.
This was very encouraging to see and now, without Kevin Durant (who will likely be out for the entire 2019-20 season, who suffered a torn Achilles in the NBA Finals), LeVert will be expected to step up big time in his absence.
I think averaging something in the range of averaging 20 points, five rebounds and five assists per game wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine at all this upcoming season, especially considering that LeVert could be a second option next to Kyrie Irving.
