5. Jaren Jackson Jr., Memphis Grizzlies

Jaren Jackson Jr. had a very impressive rookie season with the Memphis Grizzlies a year ago in which he quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the entire league. He still made mistakes as every rookie does but he projects to be one of the most versatile defenders for the next decade-plus.

His quick leaping ability, reaction time and high defensive motor make him an intimidating interior presence but his mobility and natural defensive instincts also make him adept at guarding guys out on the perimeter.

Jackson’s offense is the area that needs the most work but again, he has already displayed all of the tools to become a legit two-way star.

He has a reliable outside shot, despite a relatively low release point, plus his athleticism and soft touch make him a threat to score inside as well. He’s even shown flashes of a post-game, showcasing a feathery soft jump hook he would go to occasionally.

Jackson also finds himself on a Memphis team playing with no real expectations. The team’s focus will almost be solely on developing their young guys like Jackson and Ja Morant.

So with that in mind, Jackson should seize the increased opportunities coming his way and look to build on an already promising rookie season.

A stat line of 17 points, seven boards, and 1.5 blocks shouldn’t be too much to expect.
