Taking a closer look at three possible threats to the United States as the 2019 FIBA World Cup prepares to begin

The 2019 FIBA World Cup is rapidly approaching, with action tipping off on August 31 in China, with Team USA, once again, being one of the favorites to emerge from the tournament with the Gold Medal.

Even though bona fide stars like Anthony Davis and James Harden have withdrawn from consideration, and other big names were withdrawn due to injury, the final roster is mostly comprised of young up-and-comers such as Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, and Jaylen Brown; as well as seasoned veterans like Kemba Walker and Brook Lopez.

Before the action begins, let’s take a look at three of the biggest contenders – and threats – that the United States will face as they look to win their third straight FIBA World Cup gold medal. We begin with a couple of potential dark horses to keep an eye on as the tournament unwinds.
