Iman Shumpert

As LeBron’s former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate and only 29 years old, Iman Shumpert showed glimpses of the great on-ball defender he could become during his rookie season with the New York Knicks (a pre-injured Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade often struggled when matched up against him), but the ACL injury has demolished that potential and now his lateral quickness and great hands aren’t what they used to be.

That being said, he is also still a capable defender and can help a team in stretches. Shumpert barely saw any time on the court for Houston during the 2018 playoffs, but it wasn’t exactly due to his play.

Rather, it was Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni’s constant decision to basically go 6.5 deep in his rotation year in and year out, which can possibly create a perception that these DNP’d players are damaged goods, as Joe Johnson has implied.
