NBA Rumors: Kawhi, PG to Clippers was the plan before free agency began
NBA Rumors: According to Adrian Wojnarowski, it appears Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were planning a move to the Clippers before the start of free agency
When the Los Angeles Clippers traded for Paul George and then inked Kawhi Leonard, there were many questions. One of the first ones was how it all came to fruition. However, especially considering the main character in this scene, it’s almost set up where we’ll never get the entire truth.
Nevertheless, it won’t stop from trying to hammer down what really happened during the first 10 days of July.
Interestingly, though, when discussing tampering in a recent episode of his podcast, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski related an interesting tidbit in reference to the Kawhi Leonard/Paul George saga that took place over the summer. Interestingly, the plan before free agency started was for the two to eventually end up with the Clippers.

"“The idea that Kawhi Leonard first introduced the idea of trading for Paul George in his meeting with the Clippers, from a list, we know that days before free agency started, well days before, Kawhi and Paul George were talking. Paul George’s agent went to Oklahoma City prior to the start of free agency and said Paul would like to be traded to the Clippers. He wants to play with Kawhi."
The timing of this all is extremely fascinating. And it leads us to so many more questions. For example, was Kawhi simply doing his due diligence by taking meetings with the Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors? Was it the Clippers all along? Why didn’t we hear any whispers regarding a potential Paul George trade until it actually came to fruition?
Again, this is all extremely difficult to hammer down the truth from smoke, and it’s extremely unlikely for Kawhi and George to come out and set the record straight, but from everything that we’ve heard over the last couple of weeks it seems more and more like Kawhi to the Clippers was a foregone conclusion since before the start of free agency.
Which should make Lakers fans all the more furious with how free agency unraveled. To think, the Lakers spent the majority of their free agency time on trying to lure a player that evidently never really wanted to go to the Lakers in the first place.
Ouch. This is certainly a tough pill to swalllow. For all parties involved. After all this, it’s no question Adam Silver and the NBA are trying to cutdown on the rampant tampering issue that is taking place all around the league.
