San Antonio Spurs: 45.5 (-120) – Over
This is a bet on organizational excellence, rather than the actual roster. Put it this way, if the San Antonio Spurs don’t hit the over on this line, it would be their lowest win total since 1996-97 season (not including the 98-99 lockout year). I’ll say that again…1996-1997! That was all the way back when people were talking about O.J. Simpson because he was in the middle of a civil suit and not just because he’s super annoying on Twitter like they are now.
It’s unbelievable that the Spurs have been this good for this long, and I won’t make the mistake of betting against them until they give me a reason to. Even when you look at it just from a basketball perspective and ignore the history, it still makes sense to bet the over on this one. They bring back largely the same roster that won 48 games a year ago and adds Dejounte Murray back into the mix after he missed last season with a torn ACL.
If you want to bet against this organization and the greatest coach of all time, then you have more guts than I do. I’ll take the over and count on 20-plus consecutive years of winning to bail me out.
