Boston Celtics: Which – current or former – point guard will have the better season in 2019-20?
Kemba Walker
After eight years with the Hornets, Walker signed a four-year deal worth $35 million per year with the Celtics this summer. The three-time all-star had his best year in 2018-19 averaging 25 points and six assists per game for the Hornets. He was named third-team All-NBA last year.
Walker, 29, takes over the reins from the departed Irving, who finished two disappointing years in Boston. Last year’s Celtics went 49-33 and bowed out in the second round of the playoffs. There will be a lot of pressure on Walker to prove to Celtics fans that he can not only fill Irving’s shoes but do what Irving couldn’t do – lead them deep into the playoffs.
Walker didn’t have a lot of help in Charlotte but still, he was never able to elevate the team to much success. They only had two winning seasons, and two playoff appearances, in his tenure there and the Hornets never won more than 48 games in a season in that span. The expectations will be much higher in Boston.
