Boston Celtics: Which – current or former – point guard will have the better season in 2019-20?
Isaiah Thomas
Isaiah Thomas, 30, has been proving people wrong his entire career. He did it when he came to Boston in 2014-15 and led the Celtics to the playoffs. In the next two years, he elevated his game to become an all-star, averaging 22 points per game in 2015-16 and 29 points per game in 2017-18.
That year he was named second-team all-NBA and led the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. That offseason, the Celtics traded him, and others, to the Cavs for Irving and it was the beginning of a downhill spiral for Thomas. In the last two seasons, he bounced from the Cavs to the Lakers to the Nuggets and was plagued by injuries. He played just 32 games in 2017-18 and 12 games last year.
He signed a deal with the Wizards this past offseason and is expected to start at the point to replace John Wall, who won’t be back until late in the season, if at all. Thomas came into camp as healthy as he’s been since 2017 but unfortunately he hurt his thumb at camp and will miss the first couple weeks of the season. But when he gets back, Thomas will have a golden opportunity to prove to the Wizards, and the NBA, that he is back.
