Exploring the 12 best big 2’s in the NBA at the start of the 2019-20 season

Who are the best big 2’s in the NBA?

It’s amazing how the NBA landscape can change so dramatically almost overnight. Just as we thought the era of superteams wasn’t going away any time soon, the offseason through us about a million curveballs and now we emerge to find ourselves in the era of star duos.

Literally, around two-thirds of the teams in the league now have a big 2 (or at least potential star duos), instead of the big 3 that we somewhat got accustomed to over the last decade.

So, as the 2019-20 NBA season begins, who is the best big 2’s to start the season? We explore.

*Also, be sure to check out the latest episode of the Around the Arc podcast where I dive deep into this topic (I even include seven more of the best NBA duos not featured in this article) and more!

Honorable Mention: Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant

Kyrie and KD opting to team up on the Brooklyn Nets was, without question, one of the biggest moves in what was an already historic free agency period.

However, Nets fans are going to have to wait a while before they see their new dynamic duo in action together since Durant is going to be out most of next season (likely all of it). Hence why they don’t make this list.

But once KD does return (assuming he’s more or less back to his old self) then I could see them slotting in around the No. 3 spot on this list – or at least in the top five. You have two of the most dynamic and versatile scorers in the league who’s games appear to complement one another rather well. Kyrie is no stranger to carrying an offense and being the guy with the ball in his hands the most which will surely ease Durant’s transition once he gets back on the court and – as he proved in Golden State – you can slot KD into almost any offensive role and he’ll still drop 30 in his sleep.

What’s more, adding a healthy Kevin Durant to a roster that already has the services of guys like Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen, and you have the makings of a potential championship roster.
