NBA: 7 takeaways from the opening week of the regular season

Luka and KP are even better than advertised

Everyone (including me) was saying that we’d need to give the Mavericks new star duo time to establish themselves.

This was for a couple of reasons.

First, simply because they haven’t yet played together and they were going to need some time to figure it out.

Secondly, we all thought that Porzingis would need some time to wear off the rust and play his way back into game shape.

But…

Neither of those things has been the case and this pair is way ahead of the curve already.
Luka looks like a superstar through the first few games, averaging close to a 30-point triple-double. KP looks even better than he did in New York. And most importantly, the two are thriving together and have quickly become one of the more feared pick-and-roll/pop pairings in the entire league.

And this has just been a few games! Imagine how good they’re going to be once they’ve had a few months to play together and as Kristaps continues to get his legs under him.

I’m feeling better and better about picking the Mavs to make the playoffs this year, and they’re only just getting started.
