3. Andre Drummond, Detroit Pistons
Andre Drummond has been flying under the radar to start the 2019-20 NBA season for a different reason.
His Detroit Pistons have slumped to a 4-8 record and are lacking any reasonable attention in the East Conference. Much of the reason for this has been the absence of superstar Blake Griffin for all but one of their first twelve season matches.
To Drummond, none of this has mattered.
The Pistons center has almost become forgotten in regard to the NBA’s best big men with Detroit failing to be completely relevant in the league. Drummond, only 26 years old, is carrying the Pistons unit on his back this season.
Drummond leads his team in points-per-game (19.9 ppg), total rebounds (16.8 rebounds), blocks (2.2 per game) and steals (1.8 per game).
Add these stats to his 3.1 assists per-game average and every statistical category is a career-high average for Drummond to this point.
Drummond’s 16.8 rebounds per-game average is also leading the league, showing how immense he has been without Blake Griffin on the floor.
If it wasn’t for the Pistons 4-8 start, Drummond could very well be included in MVP talks looking at what an incredible start he has had to the 2019-20 campaign.
If a healthy Blake Griffin can get back on the court to assist Drummond, they have the potential to be one of the best duos in the league and Drummond can continue to reach new heights in his NBA career.
