David Fizdale likely won’t survive the season as head coach for the New York Knicks; he’s simply at the wrong place at the wrong time

Had it not been for the Golden State Warriors being decimated by injuries to start the season, the New York Knicks would, once again, be on pace to finish as the worst team in the NBA. In fact, you can argue that they’re still on pace to do so, in the event that Stephen Curry returns at some point this season.

Nevertheless, the painting is on the walls in New York. Short of a turnaround, and a fairly quick one, it’s looking more and more like big changes are on the horizon for the franchise. Or, at least, there should be.

Unfortunately, the first big change that will probably come before the end of the season is from the head coaching position.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

We’ve already heard whispers of late, and those whispers only seem to be growing louder. David Fizdale won’t survive the season as the head coach of the Knicks. That’s becoming clearer by the day.

"[via SNY.TV]We don’t have a definitive answer, but one member of the organization said late last month that he expected management to fire Fizdale soon, per SNY sources."

It’s tough to predict what “soon” means in this context, and James Dolan isn’t exactly the type of person that you can predict what he’ll do next. All in all, this is not great news for Fizdale, who you can argue hasn’t been given a true shot during his year and a half as the Knicks head coach.

Has Fizdale impressed with the roster that he’s been given over the last two years? Nope. But, at the same time, it’s not like his rosters have been loaded with talent. He’s been set up to fail, starting last year with the goal in mind of landing the No. 1 overall pick.

And after failing to land Zion Williamson, Fizdale has had to try to make an unbalanced roster, full of young players, work. Thus far into the season, it hasn’t.

The Knicks, for the better part of the last two seasons, have been the worst franchise in the NBA. Changes are needed. And it appears that Fizdale is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
