Scott Brooks should not be with this organization going forward

Scott Brooks with the Wizards has always reminded me of this scene from Office Space where the “Bobs” are questioning Tom on what he actually does at work. I am not really sure what Brooks’s calling card is as a coach. He was known in Oklahoma City for his work in developing players and coaching defense.

The only young guy whose game really took off upon Brooks’ arrival in 2017 has been Bradley Beal, but I do not think you can really pin that on him. Otto Porter took major steps forward before getting shipped out of town. Kelly Oubre never found his footing in D.C. None of the back-ends of the roster projects worked out. Danuel House Jr. has flourished in Houston. The Wizards have never defended as well for Brooks as they did during Randy Wittman‘s tenure, so that’s oh for two. (I won’t even discuss this season’s atrocity on that end, shout out Isaiah Thomas).

This makes me wonder what exactly Brooks has done here to add value as a coach. The offensive system remains pretty rudimentary, although he has added some new wrinkles since the John Wall injury. Kelly Olynyk can tell you that he is not exactly some kind playoff mastermind. And he definitely has not created a winning culture during his three-plus years with Washington. It is borderline criminal what he has been doing with Bradley Beal’s minutes. I do not need to see any more to say that Scott Brooks is not a good NBA head coach.
