Through the first quarter of the 2019-20 NBA season, the Miami Heat have been better than expected – and it all begins with Jimmy Butler and their young core
The Miami Heat are steamrolling right in the first half of the season. Pat Riley made a huge splash by signing Jimmy Butler this past summer. The signing of Jimmy Buckets perfectly exemplifies what Pat Riley is all about; Butler is a player with a high motor and a leader of men.
Jimmy Buckets has the Heat off to a strong start of the season; the team is 16-6 and third overall in the Eastern Conference. Butler is a swiss-army knife who can play both sides of the ball and do a myriad of things.
After coming over from Philadelphia, Butler has put his stamp on the team with never quit attitude. And that has carried over to the Heat’s three young players (two rookies); each who are coming into their own as players.

Beginning with Tyler Herro, the young flamethrower out of Kentucky is shooting 39 percent from 3-point range while averaging 14 points per contest. He’s an athletic combo guard with good length. He plays with his heart on his sleeve and he has quickly become a fan favorite during his short time in Miami.
Kendrick Nunn is the team’s other rookie that has transformed into a really good player – and starter – for the team. A tenacious scoring guard out of Oakland, Dunn is averaging almost 16 points on 44 percent shooting from the field. The 6-foot-2 point guard has started every game for Erik Spoelstra this season, and his cool and calm demeanor is something that has been a welcomed sight for the Heat.
Last but not least is Duncan Robinson, who has shown poise throughout this season. Robinson has started 17 of the team’s 22 games this season and has been a reliable threat from beyond the 3-point line. Robinson is shooting 43 percent from deep on nearly seven triple attempts per contest.
Through the first quarter of the season, there is a lot to like about this young Miami Heat team that is led by veteran star Jimmy Butler.
