This week in the NBA, Dennis Schroder brought the house down in OKC, eras ended, another devastating injury occurred, and Luka Doncic continued to shine
The NBA is never short on social content. Although, some weeks provide better material than others. This particular column will be slightly more OKC Thunder centric, largely because sixth man Dennis Schroder put together one of the greatest plays in franchise history.
Overall, it was a week filled with dramatic plays, remembrance, drama, eye-popping statistics, and Luka Doncic.
This is really what we all think about in NOLA

Thunder rookie Darius Bazley has some pretty accurate thoughts on the city of New Orleans.
Luka continues to impress
After a down year in his inaugural season with the Lakers, LeBron James has been revitalized in Los Angeles. That did not stop Mavs rising star Luka Doncic from hitting a step-back over James, en-route to ending the Lakers 10-game win streak.
Funny and relatable
Sometimes tweets age well, and other times they do not.
Approaching the end of an unfortunate situation
In January, it will cross the two-year threshold since OKC Thunder shooting guard Andre Roberson stepped onto the hardwood to play an NBA basketball game. The twists and turns in his injury saga continue to spiral. At this point, medical retirement could potentially be an option for the once defensive starlet, who turned 28 on December 4, 2019.
TNT crew does the TIK TOC challenge
Tik Toc is not a new app, but it took the web by storm this summer, and now it has reached it’s pinnacle as it has reached the TNT studio.
James Harden‘s free throw rate is ridiculous
James Harden is the king of intentionally drawing fouls. Nonetheless, the tactic seems to work to the Beard’s advantage.
This has been overlooked
Clint Capela was on quite the tear.
Preach Mr. Allen
When Carmelo Anthony won the player of the week award, the veteran earned the honor. Another NBA veteran agreed with the decision and sounded out via Twitter.
Happens to the best of us
We have all been there.
Showing love to the Young family
ESPN’s senior NBA reporter Royce Young and his wife Keri Young lost their daughter Eva roughly two years ago. The couple made the brave decision to donate their unborn daughter’s organs. Now Eva Young will be honored due to the courageous act.
This is pretty interesting
Very few people actually care about miles traveled in the NBA. However, when the numbers are right in front of you, they are fairly intriguing.
Never grown
The above quote is a snippet from a recent interview Marc J. Spears conducted with OKC Thunder guard Chris Paul if you have the time it is a must-read.
Side hustle

Kyle Kuzma is not the first Laker to work a side job. Former Lakers fan favorite Ron Artest, better known as Metta World Peace, once confessed to working at the now-defunct Circuit City, while also playing in the NBA.
Role players save star players
Superstars take their team to the pinnacle of greatness, and ultimately propel their teams forward. With that said, without a sturdy group of role players, even superstars come up short. Roberson was a key member of Oklahoma City’s supporting cast, and his absence was felt over the past few seasons.
Boo-yah
Each year, ESPN celebrates V Week, a week of remembrance for those who passed away due to cancer. The week-long campaign serves as a fundraiser for cancer research. One of the most beloved figures at the worldwide leader in sports was Stuart Scott. Scott passed due to compilations from his battle with the disease five years ago in January.
Should the Rockets get a do-over?
Click here to hear the magnificent Rachel Nichols breakdown the logistics of the train wreck that was Spurs vs. Rockets on Wednesday night. The chaos from this match was reminiscent of the playoff game the Spurs were involved in with the OKC Thunder back in 2016. There were a whopping five violations within the waning seconds, and that was not replayed, this contest likely should not be either.

This is and will always be one of the greatest photos in NBA history.
Everybody eats in OKC
Considering how pass centric the Warriors offense has been over the past five years, it is somewhat surprising they did not accomplish this feat during their run of excellence. Another impressive stat from this match involved free throws. Oklahoma City became only the 49th team over the last 20 years to shoot at least 90 percent from the charity stripe while attempting at least 40 free throws.
Hey look, art!
Nanae Yamano is an artist from Japan. She gained notoriety after her work was featured in the Wall Street Journal in 2018. However, her work was beloved in Oklahoma City by Thunder players and fans alike, years prior. In the above illustration, she recreated the epic Dennis Schroder and Steven Adams game-tying sequence.
Player coach
Dennis Schroder took to his Instagram account to share what led up to Oklahoma City’s improbable game-tying sequence. Paul echoed during his post-game interview that there was not a play call, the play was completely manifested between Schroder and Adams.

Regardless of what transpires for the rest of the season for the Thunder, they likely will not participate in a more dramatic finish. This was not one of the most important shots in team history. However, it was one of the most exciting shots in the Thunder’s lineage.
Partial Banana Boat reunion
https://www.instagram.com/p/B5xcwUzlvjf/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
Once upon a time, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony road a banana boat in the off-season. Since then, the nickname has followed the quartet of players. On Friday night, half of the ensemble — James and Anthony — shared a warm embrace after the conclusion of the contest.
This is happening far too often
This devastating and career-altering injury is becoming increasingly more common in the NBA. Including Kobe Bryant in 2013, at least seven NBA players have suffered a torn Achilles, with at least one rupture occurring every year, except in 2016. Suffice to say this trend is rather alarming.
The end of an era in New York City
The New York Knicks are on an endless road to nowhere, and the only way the team will ever improve will transpire if the franchise is sold. David Fizdale was set up to fail in the Big Apple. Whoever picks him up will add a quality addition to their coaching staff.
What a championship level coach does
Rather than risking injury and allowing the Mavericks rising star to chase arbitrary numbers, Rick Carlisle knew when to sit Doncic down. By doing so, he created in-game rest and allowed the other players a little time on the hardwood.
Luka is a machine
I am running out of adjectives to describe the type of season Doncic is having.
Accurate description
This was a rookie mistake, committed by Kevin Porter Jr. His veteran teammates likely gave the rook a hard time for this back in the Cavs locker room.
Boban FOREVER!
It’s often been stated to end on a high note. There is no better way to sign off than with Boban Marjanovic. Unfortunately, Bobi and Tobi are no longer the NBA’s favorite duo, but Boban will forever be a cultural icon.
