Way-too-early NBA All-Star predictions for the Eastern and Western Conference

It’s still pretty early in the season but it’s never too early to start talking All-Stars. The 2020 All-Star game will be missing a number of its regular participants due to injury/Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Victor Oladipo and Klay Thompson, not to mention both Kyrie Irving and Nikola Vucevic who have missed a lot of time to start the season.

With that being said the NBA is still full of talented players, and a bunch of young budding stars. This, combined with the number of injuries that are could make for quite a few guys making their first all-star appearance.

As a reminder as to how all-star voting works, the fans, players, and media vote on the starters. The fans contribute to 50% of the vote, and the players and media get 25% each. And the reserves are decided by the coaches. In addition to that, the leading vote-getter in each conference will become captains.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Let’s get started.

Eastern Conference Captain

F – Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

This seems like a no-brainer. Giannis Antetokounmpo is possibly the best player in the NBA and definitely the best player in the Eastern Conference. Not to mention, fans love him. I think Giannis is a lock to go back-to-back as the leading vote-getter in the East.

Eastern Conference Starting Guards

G – Kemba Walker, Boston Celtics

Kemba Walker has been the unquestioned leader of the Boston Celtics who is one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. If Kemba doesn’t end up being a starter, he is a lock to make the team.

G – Ben Simmons, Philadelphia 76ers

Simmons has had a fair amount of criticism this season but that doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best guards in the game. Simmons is also very popular among fans, so it is likely he will be a starter.

Eastern Conference starting forwards

F – Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers

Embiid is a lock to be a starter in the East and could be the only person that could rival Giannis to be the captain. Embiid is one of the most beloved NBA players, especially on social media, which will help him in terms of the fan vote.

F – Pascal Siakam, Toronto Raptors

From most improved player to NBA all-star starter. Pascal Siakam is a serious contender for back-to-back MIP awards and should be an absolute lock to be an Eastern Conference all-star, and most likely a starter.

Eastern Conference reserve guards

G – Kyle Lowry, Toronto Raptors

Lowry has been an all-star each of the last 5 years and is easily the second-best player on one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Kyle Lowry won’t likely be a starter again but he should definitely be a reserve guard.

G – Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards

While the Wizards have been one of the worst teams in the NBA, they are scoring at a ridiculous clip. That is mostly due to the production of Bradley Beal. At 27 PPG (5th in the league) Beal is deserving of an all-star nod.

G – Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets

This selection is predicated on Irving getting healthy. If he doesn’t play any more games before the All-star break there is no way he makes the team. However, assuming Irving is able to get back on the court, his production is undeniable and deserves a spot in the all-star game.

Honorable mention Eastern Conference guards

Trae Young, Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon, Spencer Dinwiddie, Fred VanVleet

Eastern Conference Reserve Forwards

F – Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat

Butler has been one of the best players in the NBA so far this season and could even push for a starting spot in the all-star game. But considering how could the guys above him have been I think he may fall into a reserve role.

F – Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics

After signing a massive contract extension with the Celtics Brown has more than lived up to that contract to start this season. His high level of production on both ends of the floor will likely land him his first all-star selection.

F – Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics

Another Boston Celtic who is deserving of his first all-star selection. Tatum has been remarkable this season. His two-way ability and pure scoring prowess have complimented Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward perfectly.

F – Bam Adebayo, Miami Heat

Yet another Eastern Conference player who could and should be making their first all-star game. Bam Adebayo has been absolutely incredible for the Miami Heat. His elite defensive skills and above-average playmaking for a center makes him a likely all-star selection.

Honorable mention Eastern Conference forwards

Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Domantas Sabonis, Tobias Harris

Western Conference captain

F – LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron Jame has been the best player in the NBA for a while now and he continues to be in that conversation. He definitely a top 5 player and considering the fact that most fans love him it looks like we may have Team Giannis vs. Team LeBron round 2.

Western Conference starting guards

G – Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Luka has been leading the Dallas Mavericks to an outstanding start to this season. They are currently the third-best team in the Western conference which no one saw coming. Not to mention Luka’s numbers have been absolutely insane. He is a lock to start the all-star game.

G – James Harden, Houston Rockets

Harden is probably one of the least liked players in the NBA. People simply feel as though he is boring to watch and that his numbers are cheapened in some way. I think these arguments are ridiculous and Harden deserves to start the all-star game. He could even have a solid argument to be the captain.

Western Conference starting forwards

F – Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers

Anthony Davis is a lock to be a starter in the West. Davis has been leading one of the NBA’s best defenses while putting up ridiculous numbers on the offensive end. Regardless of how fans feel about what he did to the Pelicans last year, they should reward is incredible play with an all-star starting spot.

F – Kawhi Leonard, LA Clippers

Assuming Kawhi Leonard plays enough games, there is no question he is a top 5 player in the NBA and should be rewarded with a starting spot in the all-star game.

Western Conference reserve guards

G – Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers

While the Blazers have got off to a pretty slow start, Lillard hasn’t. Dame is playing as good as he ever has to start this season and he shouldn’t be punished because his supporting cast sucks. If Lillard isn’t a reserve in the all-star game he could possibly be a starter.

G – Donovan Mitchell, Utah Jazz

While Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz haven’t been incredible this season Mitchell is deserving of his first all-star nod. This is mostly to due to the injuries of Curry and Klay in the western conference but Mitchell is going to be an all-star at some point so why not now.

G – Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns

Similar to Mitchell, Booker is going to be an all-star at some point in his career and this year is his best chance yet due to the injuries of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. With that being said, Booker has been leading the Suns to a respectable start to the season and should be rewarded accordingly.

Honorable mention Western Conference guards

Russell Westbrook, Jamal Murray, Andrew Wiggins, CJ McCollum, DeMar DeRozan

Western Conference reserve forwards

F – Paul George, LA Clippers

Paul George has been one of the best players in the NBA since he returned from injury. Assuming George plays a reasonable amount of games over the next couple of months he should be a lock for the all-star team.

F – Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves

Karl Anthony-Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves came out of the gate hot to start the season and have slowed down since, but Towns is still a deserving all-star. Towns is one of the best big men in the NBA and if he could put together a strong stretch he could rival Kawhi or AD for a starting spot.

F – Rudy Gobert, Utah Jazz

Similar to his teammate Donovan Mitchell, Gobert is fortunate the guys below him just aren’t that good. However, Rudy is still one of the best bigs in the NBA and is always in contention for DPOY. Mark him down for his first all-star selection. No tears this year! (Hopefully)

Miami Heat: Jimmy Butler is making a legit NBA MVP case. dark. Next

F – Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic has honestly been abysmal to start this season. He has lacked effort on both ends of the floor and simply looks out of shape (more than usual). But, there are simply not that many all-star caliber forwards in the Western conference and so Jokić will likely make the roster.

Honorable mention Western Conference forwards

LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Ingram, Bojan Bogdanovic, Montrezl Harrell, Danilo Gallinari
