Giannis Antetokounmpo is tearing up the league and is destined for a back-to-back NBA MVP award
Ancient Egypt. Ancient Greece. Ancient Rome. Ancient Mesopotamia.
Civilizations. Monuments. Landmarks. The best spots for history, tranquility, and self-reflection. Reflect on memories. Reflect on the past. Reflect on wants. Desiring to be more monumental for the status quo. Searching for ways to be monumental in the mind. The mind is monumental.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is too. Compare his game to a monument. A vast area of skills. Born in Athens, Greece; but Nigerian is his bloodline.

If basketball is monumental or incredibly popular like we’ve seen internationally than ‘Greek Freak’ has to be in that conversation. His 6-foot-11 frame transcends all the defensive thoughts about stopping him. Stopping him from doing what? Penetrating the lane; jab step, pull up jumper; in your face, and there’s nothing you can do about it but look in his eyes and say, “Dammit, Giannis!”
Troubles. Among those troubles; finding a way to stop the Greek ‘Herculean-like’ basketball deity from filling up the score sheets like our mom’s used to fill up our glasses with Kool-laid as a child. Sweet as ever. But guarding Giannis isn’t so sweet.
” I don’t care if you had 45 points!” I’m only 6’5!” You’re 6’11 man!” Like, what the heck?!”
Excuses from a defender. Intimidated by the euro-step. That’s common. Especially if you’re ankles get broken. Go grab the crutches for this guy.
This narrative encompasses standing your ground. Standing up for your own authority. As a player, Giannis has an agenda with the Bucks this season. Perhaps a point to prove? Prove what? To who? At this point, the way I see it; he’s already portrayed an ‘MVP-like’ campaign thus far. All we have to do is go back and analyze the Lakers matchup from a week ago after he gave LeBron and the Lakers a 34 point clinic in just 32 minutes. Easy money. As easy as it sounds, it’s pretty damn easy. For Giannis at least.
Then, last night against the Knicks, he goes for a triple-double. So, the logical question, “Is he the MVP level right now?”
Thirty-one points per game. That’s insanity for anybody defending. There’s a short answer. The long answer will come later on.
A little later after the New Year. What Giannis is to Milwaukee, is what LeBron was to Cleveland when he led them to the NBA Finals after having one of the most inexperienced rosters I’d ever seen in pro basketball. Greek Freak’s main objective at this point, is to invigorate the continuity of his craft. Become the best ‘Greek-Nigerian’ baller the NBA has ever seen. And do it with the intention of winning an NBA title.
That’s where we’re at with it. Forget all the fuss about MVP competition surrounding the league. Now, James Harden could give him a run for his bankroll. I highly doubt anyone else could.
MVP? Or should I ask, “Will he receive MVP this season?”
Every time I write these columns, I ask the same questions almost all the time. This question is a no-brainer. A 6-foot-11 Greek-Nigerian assassin with adeptness, and meticulous instincts for the game; he’s for sure destined for an MVP crown.
After he’s crowned, he’ll be able to go back and stand tall in front of all the ancient God’s bowing in honor saying, “I’m a bucket!” Put me on a throne!”
