NBA: Looking back at 8 of the best/worst offseason moves from the summer
The Heat drafting Tyler Herro and signing undrafted rookie Kendrick Nunn
It’s hard to find a 19-year-old rookie outside the top 10 that isn’t considered a project but to be able to also discover a talented and slightly “aged” rookie free agent on the last day of the season is unheard of; most 24-year-olds who are not playing in the NBA have already peaked.
Looking at this year’s rookie class, it’s no secret that they have been abysmal when it comes to efficiency and though Ja Morant is likely the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year, Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro conceivably trail shortly behind him.
Nunn can be described as just another diamond in the rough after several teams (most notably the Warriors) refused to believe in his NBA level upside last season. In Miami, Nunn has started at point guard and managed to average 16.4 points per game, while summer league standout, Tyler Herro, is averaging 13.9 points and shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc.
