The NBA recently named Dennis Schroder and Kyle Lowry as players of the week. This is especially a big deal for the Oklahoma City Thunder guard

It was a big week for Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder. Due to helping aid his team to a 4-0 record, the German point guard earned the first player of the week honor off the bench since the 2017-18 campaign.

Moreover, Raptors mainstay Kyle Lowry received the nod for the East. Lowry also guided the Raptors to a perfect 4-0 record.

Super sixth man

Recently, Schroder has been forcing his way into the Sixth Man of the Year conversation. When I initially heard these murmurs, I did not take them seriously. However, with his recent player of the week nod, Schroder appears to be putting the league on notice.

Schroder led the Thunder in scoring last week at 25.3 points per game. His high scoring mark placed first in the league among all reserves by a full five points, making him the only 20 points per game scorer in the entire association.

That’s a bad man

The explanation for Lowry winning player of the week is simple. His team just put together the largest comeback over the last 30 years in the NBA. Lowry was vital in the rally as he scored 32 points, dished nine assists, and pulled down eight boards.

The runner-up’s

An argument could be made for two different East guards. First, Trae Young averaged nearly 40 points for the week of December 16-22. However, his Hawks went 0-3 with an average margin of defeat clocking in at 12.7 points.

Next up; Spencer Dinwiddie. Similar to Young, Dinwiddie registered nearly 40 points per match, while his team went a modest 2-1. The Brooklyn guard is beginning to put Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson in a difficult position. Dinwiddie has outgrown his role on the bench. With that said, at some point, Kyrie Irving will return, and Atkinson will be forced to make some difficult decisions regarding his rotation.
