Reliving Russell Westbrook’s best moments from his OKC Thunder tenure
By Alex Mcewen
Welcome back Brodie, ahead of Russell Westbrook making his anticipated return to the Peake. Sir Charles In Charge took a look back at some of Russ’s best moments.
A moment many basketball fans have been waiting for since July 11, 2019, when the blockbuster deal went down, has finally arrived. Russell Westbrook will make his illustrious return to Chesapeake Energy Arena, an arena he called home for all for his entire career until the trade sent him across the Red River to the Houston Rockets.
During his Oklahoma City Thunder tenure, Westbrook accumulated some eye-popping statistics, check them out below.
Westbrook Stats:
- 11 Seasons
- 821 Games Played
- 28,330 Minutes Played
- 18,859 Points Scored
- 6,897 Assists
- 1,442 Steals
- 5,760 Rebounds
- 138 Triple-Doubles
- Eight All-Star Appearances
It would be difficult to sum up 11 year’s worth of accomplishments with one comment. However, Oklahoma Native and News 5 Cleveland anchor Frank Wiley Jr. did a pretty good job:
“There were many moments that stood out. The performance Russ had for the first game against Kevin Durant was memorable. The 20 point quarter Russ had that was punctuated with, “I’m coming! I’m coming!” Also, the performance Russ put together against the Jazz in Game 5 of the playoffs. The 50 point triple-double against the Nuggets, to eliminate Denver from playoff contention and sealed the MVP. That 3-point shot was amazing. The bounce pass that Westbrook threw that split a defender’s legs and the spin move, no-look, over the shoulder pass to Adams. All of the shoe giveaways to kids and the rim destroying dunks he threw down. And lastly, the moment he got the unruly 76ers fan tossed from the game. Four years of averaging at least 10 assists, and three years of averaging a triple-double.”
Yes, Westbrook did many special things, both on and off the hardwood, and the above quote illustrates many of them, but there is still much more to be discussed about Russ. Let the reminiscing officially commence on the next slide.
