NBA: Midterm reports for first-year head coaches
By John Nassif
Taylor Jenkins, Memphis Grizzlies
Grit and Grind? How about Fast and Flash? This young Grizzlies team has been electrifying and Jenkins has implemented a style of play very emblematic of the Milwaukee Bucks *albeit not nearly as good*.
Emphasis on pace and volume shooting combined with an incredibly promising young core has led to the Grizzlies drastically outperforming preseason expectations. Jenkins has displayed promise of a very bright coaching career already in his young rookie season.
One massive area he needs to improve is in-game adjustments. Third-quarter and second-half margins are a great indicator of how aptly a coach can make adjustments. Keep an eye on how Jenkins addresses this moving forward.
Good Stat: Paint Points AND Assists – 1st in Paint Points at 54.6 per game and 2nd in assists at 27.5 per game
Bad Stat: Adjustments – Dead last in 2nd half margin (-3.8/game)
