NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers, 76ers could target Derrick Rose

NBA Trade Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers are among the teams that are set to target Derrick Rose at the trade deadline

There will be a number of contenders interested in upgrading their rosters as the NBA Trade Deadline approaches. Two of the teams that are expected to be active are the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.

Both teams have clear weak spots on their roster, and both happen to be the lack of backcourt depth – specifically at the backup point guard position. One player that, reportedly, the two teams are expected to target is Derrick Rose.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Rose is a name that many contenders could be targeting in the coming weeks. The Lakers and 76ers are expected to be at the top of that list.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers and multiple teams with championship aspirations have expressed interest in trading for Detroit Pistons guard Derrick Rose, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Clippers have checked in on Rose as well, but it was more of common exploratory talk, sources said.

The Lakers and Sixers are in search of point guard assistance for the stretch run, sources said.

Rose would be a huge upgrade for either team. While Rose might not be the same player that he was a few years ago, he’s still one of the best backup point guards in the NBA. Rose, in a backup role this season, is having one of the best statistical years of his career.

He might not be scoring at the volume that he was during his MVP season, but he’s averaging 18 points and six assists per game on 50 percent shooting from the field (career-high).

At the moment, he’s playing at an efficiently high level and, no question would be a huge shot in the arm for any team looking to make a big second-half push ahead of the playoffs.

Adding a player like Rose would be a huge help for a team like the Lakers or 76ers. However, the big question is what the price will be. Rose will be one of the most sought after players at the trade deadline and will spark a bidding war.
