The Minnesota Timberwolves have been mightily unimpressive this season; here are four steps the team can make to reemerge as playoff contenders
The amount of young prospective talent that the Minnesota Timberwolves have had at their disposal is almost unbelievable to comprehend and has been for the last few years.
They present arguably one of the best young big men in the league in Karl-Anthony Towns manning their frontcourt. At small forward is the talented but enigmatic Andrew Wiggins who seemed aligned for stardom since being the No. 1 overall pick coming out of Kansas in 2015.
And currently this year, the talent pool has again come full circle for the Wolves at the hands of yet another promising prospective draft pick. The 2019 NBA Draft granted the franchise an unheralded gem in shooting guard Jarrett Culver who seems destined to have a solid NBA career if not at the very best be a fringe All-Star.
It gave Minnesota a third solid NBA caliber pro that at the very least could allow the team to build around and help propel them from being perennial mediocre disappointments into postseason competitors.
Yet, it has not, and it seems the franchise is in myriad disarray currently as they are yet again on the outside looking in on the Western Conference playoff chase. This is being accomplished in a year where the Memphis Grizzlies are the eighth seed out West when it was widely considered as a rebuilding year for their franchise.
Perennial playoff inhabitants in the Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs respectively are also having porous regular seasons to date with the two franchises not cracking 20 wins through over 40 games into their seasons. All of these stated catastrophes for the Timberwolves franchise leaves them in no-man’s land with a level of indecisiveness on where they should go as an organization.
Here are the four key steps the team should take to help advance their overall team and cultural identity to at least get them back into the playoff picture on a more regular basis.
