Marvin Williams

New Team: Milwaukee Bucks

Last Monday, Marvin Williams was able to officially sign with the Milwaukee Bucks. Though he might be a name that isn’t very well known – by reason of playing for three small-market teams (Charlotte, Utah, and Atlanta) during his 14 years in the NBA – he has been a sneaky good role player for most of his career.

Williams has never been able to live up to the hype of being the second pick of the NBA draft, and he never will, but what he has been able to do is embody the stretch-4 role and guard positions 1 through 4: a versatile skill that is very hard to find in stretch big men.

In Milwaukee, he’ll likely be asked to play the 4 position whenever Budenholzer chooses to insert Giannis at the 5. And given how Brook Lopez is a streaky 3-point shooter and has really struggled to hit the 3 on a consistent basis this season, the frontcourt will be more switchable with Middleton, Williams, and Giannis all being able to move their feet fairly well for their size.

Of course, it’s worth noting, Williams is also already 33 years old, so only time will tell if he still has something left in the tank. One must not ignore how an NBA player’s peak constantly fluctuates on a per person basis.
