NBA Rumors: After somewhat rebuilding his reputation in Portland, the New York Knicks could be open to the idea of signing Carmelo Anthony during the summer
Perhaps Carmelo Anthony will get his retirement tour after all.
For a player as great as Melo has been throughout his NBA career, both the ups and downs, he’s also a player that deserves one. However, after his reputation took a massive hit after failing experiments with the Oklahoma City Thunder and then with the Houston Rockets, that was very much in doubt.
In fact, after being waived by the Rockets in 2018, many assumed that we had seen the last of Melo in the NBA altogether.

Thankfully, Melo did get another opportunity. And it’s one that he’s been taking full advantage of this season with the Portland Trail Blazers. Averaging nearly 16 points and six rebounds per game with the Blazers, Melo is on pace to have one of his best statistical seasons in recent history.
Melo is also shooting 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from 3-point range. In embracing the minimized role that he’s been given in Portland this season, Melo has proven that he can – and will – accept not being the focal point of an NBA offense, something that had been a concern around the league prior to this season.
After his time in Portland, perhaps it will open more opportunities in the NBA next season (assuming he returns for another year). One potential landing spot, which would make sense for Melo, is the New York Knicks.
For the most part, Melo will be remembered for his time with the Knicks. It’s one of the NBA’s most iconic franchises and a team that he spent seven seasons with. And being a hometown favorite, if he’s going to get his farewell tour, it’ll be with New York.
"[via New York Post]Incoming Knicks president Leon Rose is expected to be interested in bringing Carmelo Anthony back to the Knicks next season, according to multiple NBA executives."
There are still many questions that need to be answered from both sides, but it would be quite the story if Melo and the Knicks were to reunite next season. This would be a loaded agreement and I’m not sure if both sides would be completely on board, but it’s what the NBA could really use next season.
And if Carmelo Anthony is genuinely ready to make that type of step, knowing that the end of his career is near, it will almost certainly work.
