With two big wins over the weekend against the Bucks and Clippers, the Los Angeles Lakers prove they are the best team in the NBA

Just a couple of weeks ago, it was natural to question the Los Angeles Lakers. After LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there weren’t many other reliable names on this roster. For a team that many considered to be a contender to win the NBA Championship, the Lakers aren’t all that deep.

Add in the fact that they were 0-2 against the LA Clippers and 0-1 against the Milwaukee Bucks, two of the Lakers’ biggest hurdles if they want to win the championship, and the doubt surrounding the team’s regular-season record wasn’t surprising.

However, over the last few days, many of those concerns should have quieted. In fact, after beating the Bucks and Clippers in back-to-back games, you can make the argument that the Lakers should be considered the hands-down favorites to win the NBA Championship.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

The Lakers not only beat the Bucks and Clippers but did so in impressive fashion. Led by LeBron’s and AD’s combined 67 points, Los Angeles topped the Bucks 113-103. Two days later, the Lakers were fueled a strong fourth quarter from Anthony Davis and Avery Bradley‘s 24 points as they beat the Clippers 112-103.

With 20 regular-season games remaining, the Lakers (49-13) hold a 6.5 game lead over the Clippers for the top seed in the Western Conference. They’re also only two games back of the Bucks for the top overall seed in the NBA.

Which is certainly something to keep an eye on. Especially if the Bucks, who hold a 7.5 game lead over the Toronto Raptors in the East for the top seed, begin to rest some of their starters heading into the playoffs.

Even though the Lakers will likely favor health over seeding, especially with the West’s top seed all but wrapped up, but should they move within striking distance of finishing with the best record in the NBA, there’s no doubt they should do everything they can to do so.

The Lakers will only go as far as LeBron James and Anthony Davis will take them, but having homecourt advantage, especially in the NBA Finals, is such a luxury throughout league history.

And as we’ve seen so far this season, the team’s dynamic duo can take them pretty far. And when both players are healthy and on top of their game, they are the best team in the NBA. They’ve proven that for the better part of this season and did so on the big stage over the weekend in back-to-back games against the Bucks and Clippers.

The Los Angeles Lakers should be the favorites to win the 2020 NBA Championship. If you didn’t believe that a few days ago, it’s time you reconsider.
