NBA Rumors: It’s looking more and more like a mid-June restart to the NBA season is viewed as a best-case scenario

The NBA is currently in a 30-day hiatus, however, it’s looking more and more like if the 2019-20 season is going to restart it’s going to happen in mid-to-late June best-case scenario.

In part, this is a reaction to the CDC’s recommendation on Sunday night that no events or gatherings of any kind should include more than 50 people accross the United States. Eight weeks from now would be mid-May. Add in a couple of weeks for a psuedo training camp, and June seems like the best bet of the NBA returning

And, of course, that’s a half-cup-full type of assumption too. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, that’s the thinking around NBA circles as well.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"Against the backdrop of a global pandemic, NBA owners and executives are bracing for the possibility of mid-to-late June as a best-case scenario for the league’s return, sources told ESPN on Sunday."

Even though a two-plus month hiatus without basketball would be devastating for fans everywhere, it has to be considered at least a bit encouraging that the league isn’t thinking about the cancelation of the season just yet.

From the sound of the early reports since the announcement of the 30-day hiatus, there’s some hope for the NBA season to continue at some point over the summer.

Even if it pushes back the start of the 2020-21 season, I believe that should be the move. Here’s an interesting timeline of a potential new NBA schedule for the remainder of this season, the offseason, and the start of the next season provided by Bobby Marks:

Would this theoretically work? Perhaps, and would give the NBA its standalone stage and let the NFL have the fall, something that could appeal to NBA officials moving forward. However, that’s a different story for another day.

Right now, let’s hope we can continue the 2019-20 NBA season at some point. In the meantime, be smart and stay safe.
