In what many consider to be one of the weaker NBA Draft classes in recent history, we rank the top 5 prospects heading into the draft season.
The 2020 NBA Draft has been labeled as one of the rather weaker draft classes in recent memory. The hope for many tanking teams this season is more than likely to obtain a top-three pick. Many view this draft as having three top-level talent prospects, and then a bit of a drop-off after that.
However, there has still been plenty of movement around many NBA Draft Big Boards since the start of the season. Now that the NCAA Tournament has officially been canceled, we’ll explore our top 5 heading into NBA Draft season.
5. Obi Toppin, forward, Dayton
In an era where being an undersized power forward who can impact the game a multitude of ways is now the norm, Obi Toppin is the next newly minted pro prospect. He thrived in his second season at Dayton with a sophomore surge that ultimately elevated his draft stock come the summer.
Toppin’s athleticism, shooting touch, and off-ball activity around the rim make him a feasible fit for any team in their offensive setting. Yet, where he possibly shines the best is his defense, challenging the opposition’s shots on a daily basis (1.2) and getting after it from a steals perspective (1.3).
Teams have been looking for the next Pascal Siakam the past year and a half now who can average around 20 points a game in an offensive structure where one doesn’t need the ball in his hands as the primary ball-handler. Toppin could be the new and improved version that’s better along than Siakam ever was coming out of New Mexico State.
