NBA Draft: Ranking the top 5 seniors from the 2020 class
By John Nassif
Udoka Azubuike, C, Kansas
Season: 13.7 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 0.9 APG, 2.6 BPG, 74.8 FG%, 44.1 FT%
Career: 12.3 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 0.7 APG, 2.0 BPG, 74.6 FG%, 41.6 FT%
Udoka Azubuike undoubtedly has holes in his game. But the man rolls out of bed into a double-double every morning. He offers a skill-set that you won’t find elsewhere after the lottery. If a team is looking for a defensive anchor or a big to solidify their second unit, Azubuike will be worth a look.
He will have no trouble playing his role wherever he lands because he did just that on his way to leading the NCAA in field goal percentage two separate years. The flaw he will need to address immediately is his free throw shooting.
Most coaches won’t entertain extended minutes for someone who will elicit an immediate fouling strategy. And Azubuike won’t be the exception should he get a shot at the NBA level.
