NBA: Ranking the top duos from the 2019-20 season
7. Kemba Walker/Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics
Combined stats: 45 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists
Many questioned the potential fit that Kemba Walker would be with the Boston Celtics, considering that he’s not as dynamic of a player that Kyrie Irving was, but it’s safe to say that the acquisition has paid off. Entering the hiatus, the Celtics had solidified themselves as the third-best team in the East and were setting up for a potentially deep playoff run. The development of Jayson Tatum during the month of February was a big reason why, too.
Tatum was getting better with every passing month this season, crescendoing by averaging 31 points and eight rebounds on 49 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent shooting from 3-point range. He was quickly evolving into a real game-changer – and ceiling-raiser – for the Celtics this season.
Should the Celtics get the opportunity, there’s a real chance that the Celtics could emerge as the biggest threat to the Bucks in the Eastern Conference – and that’s not just about this season. Boston could be on the verge of a special team.
And we haven’t even talked about Jaylen Brown, who is quickly becoming a star in the NBA as well.
