JJ Redick, New Orleans Pelicans

Many wouldn’t consider JJ Redick as “star,” but there’s no question that he could be exceptionally effective as a third option in today’s NBA. Coming off a season in which he took a bit of a lesser role with the New Orleans Pelicans, Redick is still effective and efficient as a shooter. Redick averaged 15 points on 45 percent shooting from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range this past year in New Orleans.

Redick would thrive playing off Kyrie and Durant. He would keep defenses from doubling Kyrie and Durant and would make them pay if they did. The only real concern would be whether he might fall off too much in the next few months. Redick will be 36 by the time next season begins. Even though he wouldn’t be asked to do much as a third option with Kyrie and Durant, he could be a liability on the defensive end. And having Redick and Kyrie as your backcourt defenders might not be great for the overall defense.

Redick comes with a fairly cheap contract and would be an expiring contract after the 2020-21 season. Perhaps taking a flier on him wouldn’t be the worst move that the Nets could make during the offseason.
