Hoping that the top pick is ready to contribute from day 1 is risky

Let’s assume that the Warriors will want to move forward with their current roster and hope that the additions of Andrew Wiggins and the top pick – whether it’s Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, or LaMelo Ball – will be enough to catapult them to contender status again in the Western Conference.

While that seems like a safe play, there’s also a chance that Klay Thompson comes in rusty, Draymond Green loses another step, and Andrew Wiggins simply isn’t a fit with this core. Add in a rookie that may or may not be ready to play and it could leave the Warriors with more questions than answers. And, most importantly, sitting on the side as a non-contender in the West.

Hoping that a 19 or 20-year-old is going to be ready to contribute on the biggest of stages on opening night is too much of a risk for a team like the Warriors. Golden State is hoping to win another championship, and sooner rather than later. I’m not sure if adding a talented rookie is the ideal move.
