8. Detroit Pistons: RJ Hampton, G, NZ Breakers
If the Detroit Pistons were looking to take a prospect with upside with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, I believe RJ Hampton would be their pick with the way that the draft board has fallen thus far. Hampton is a lottery-level pick based almost solely on his potential as an offensive player at the next level.
Hampton might’ve only averaged nine points, four rebounds, and two assists this past season in the NBL, but his per 36 stats look much better – 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists per game. He only shot 40 percent from the field and 29 percent from 3-point range but Hampton is everything you look for in a potential offensive star at the next level.
At 6-foot-4, Hampton has good size for his position and could help escort the Pistons to the era of Detroit basketball. Perhaps he could even help re-energize a player like Blake Griffin, who will be coming off an injury heading into the 2020-21 season.
