Chicago Bulls hope to enter new era behind Arturas Karnisovas
The Chicago Bulls are hoping to enter a new era as they hire Arturas Karnisovas to run their basketball operations.
The Chicago Bulls have never been the same since the injury to Derrick Rose during the 2011-12 NBA playoffs. Simply put, the Bulls were never in a position to recover and you can’t help but blame the front office and management that hasn’t been able to put together another championship-caliber team in almost a decade.
In the last five seasons, the Bulls have only made the playoffs once and failed to successfully build around Jimmy Butler, a perennial all-star, during his six seasons in Chicago.
Nevertheless, the Bulls are hoping to change the narrative for the franchise. In an attempt to shift the power and move on to new leadership at the top, Chicago has hired Arturas Karnisovas to become the Bulls’ new executive vice president of basketball operations. Karnisovas comes over from Denver, where he was the team’s general manager.

"[via ESPN]Karnisovas, 48, will replace John Paxson, who has been running the Bulls’ basketball operations since 2003. Karnisovas will be tasked with reshaping the totality of an organization that has failed to reach the postseason the past two seasons, including hiring a new general manager and additional basketball operations and scouting positions, sources said.…Paxson is expected to move into an advisory role, and there will be discussions with GM Gar Forman about his future with the organization, sources said."
The Bulls still have plenty of work to do but with this move, it’s clear they’re hoping to turn the page on a disappointing chapter in team history. Moving on from Gar Forman and John Paxson, the team believes this is going to be the start of a new era.
Basketball-wise, the Bulls aren’t in a terrible position. They have plenty of young talent on their roster and one strong veteran building block in Zach LaVine. To say that the new management would be building from ground-zero would be a massive understatement. At the same time, things weren’t working on the previous status-quo. This is the type of change that was desperately needed.
The big question, of course, is whether or not this move will choose to be the right one for the Chicago Bulls moving forward. The good news is that this is part of the change that many, fans included, wanted to see in Chicago. Now, we’ll see if they actually made the right hire.
