Chinese Basketball Association pushes restart to July after another setback
Chinese Basketball Association pushes resumption of its season to July, at its earliest, after another setback
In somewhat discouraging news, the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) postpones its restart until July, at the earliest. The CBA was originally set to resume play in April. However, after a couple of setbacks, the plan is now for a resumption of play in July.
If nothing else, this has to be viewed as discouraging for any other sports leagues hoping to restart somewhat soon. Not to say that all sports won’t restart until July, at the earliest, but there are lessons to learn from a league such as the CBA.
It’s almost impossible to predict what is going to happen over the next few weeks and months in terms of sports here in the United States, but looking to see how other sports leagues in territories that were hit by the pandemic sooner (which hopefully got/get through it sooner) will give us a bit of a preview of what a post-COVID-19 sports world could look like.

So when you hear the news that the CBA restart has been pushed back again, you can’t help but be a bit discouraged.
Again, every situation is unique. This is not to say that the NBA won’t be able to resume play again, though it should bring pause. And the hope is that Adam Silver is learning from every other possible outlet in such trying times.
As has been said time and time again over the last few weeks, this is uncharted territory for everyone – including sports leagues. And there is no perfect plan in terms of how long the status quo will go on and what the ideal plan of return will be.
This can’t be encouraging, though. The hope is that sports will eventually make its way back, probably not normally initially. Nevertheless, it will come back in waves and in portion. But anytime there is any sort of setback, it’s never a great thing.
Hopefully, it’s back sooner rather than later. However, at the moment, I’m not sure anyone can say conclusively either way.
