NBA’s HORSE competition might’ve missed, but idea was right
The NBA’s HORSE competition is exactly the type of idea that will keep its fans and followers entertained and engaged during the hiatus
Many were quick to disqualify the NBA when it was announced that they’d be sponsoring a HORSE competition to be broadcast on ESPN. Many more jumped off-board when the quarterfinals didn’t feature the fireworks and entertainment that many hoped it would.
In defense, the competition did its job – provided NBA fans desperate for any kind of basketball action with some entertainment, and the competition improved as it went along. The hope is that trend will continue heading into the semifinals, which will take place Thursday, April 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Chauncey Billups (defeated Trae Young) will take on Mike Conley (defeated Tamika Catchings) while Zach LaVine (defeated Paul Pierce) will play Allie Quigley (defeated Chris Paul).

Even though perhaps the NBA’s HORSE competition wasn’t the high-quality entertainment that many hoped it would be, it’s great that Adam Silver and the NBA is still trying to find ways to entertain the public and its fans. As innovative as he’s always been as the commissioner of the NBA, we can continue to expect him to be experimental in these trying times.
That will likely carry over to when it’s time to start thinking about a potential comeback for the league. Silver will be innovative and thoughtful. If nothing else, that’s one thing that we’re learning during his NBA hiatus.
Plus, in a time such as this, it’s important to adjust expectations. We are in uncharted territory right now – everyone, not just us as consumers. Sometimes that’s difficult to grasp. So, let’s give the HORSE competition another shot.
Did it get off to a rough start? Absolutely, but maybe improvements will be made after the initial launch and the entertainment value will be enhanced heading into this week’s semifinals? Give it another shot.
After all, what else are you going to do?
