Brooklyn Nets: Tyronn Lue will be a favorite to replace Kenny Atkinson
According to a recent report, Tyronn Lue would be interested in becoming the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
A little more than a month ago, the Brooklyn Nets announced that they would be parting ways with head coach Kenny Atkinson. As you’d expect, it was quite a surprising development for the team and around the league.
However, as the Nets approach a new era centered around Kyrie Irving and a healthy Kevin Durant, it makes some sense that the organization wanted a fresh start in the coaching department. What didn’t exactly make a ton of sense, however, was the team parting ways with one of the emerging coaches in the league – which is exactly what Kenny Atkinson was.
Nevertheless, the Nets made a decision that they believe will end up being in the best interest of their team. There’s really no time for them to be second-guessing themselves.

As the team prepares for a full-scale coaching search, there is one candidate, off the top, that makes a lot of sense for the team. That’s Tyronn Lue, who is currently an assistant coach for the LA Clippers.
Lue has head coaching experience, has won a championship before, and is familiar with Kyrie Irving, who can often be viewed as somewhat of a coaching headache. Bringing in a coach that has experience with Kyrie, and potentially the respect of winning a championship already, wouldn’t be the worst-case scenario for a team that is looking for a fresh voice.
"[via New York Daily News]The former Cavaliers coach is, in fact, interested in the Nets gig, according to a source, following a Yahoo! report that Irving prefers Lue on Brooklyn’s sideline."
If the report is true that Kyrie would prefer Lue to be the next head coach of the Nets, and the fact that Lue would be interested, is in fact meaningful. As the saying goes, where there’s smoke there’s fire.
It’s not exactly known who the Nets will target as their next head coach, but when it comes time to develop a group of candidates there’s no question that Tyronn Lue will be in the mix. Question is, is he the man for the job?
