Exploring who will win an NBA Championship in Los Angeles first, LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard?
Prior to the NBA season being suspended, we were in the midst of a battle between superstars.
Both Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James were looking to take their teams to the promised land as they both seek to bring a championship home to Los Angeles. With both next-door neighbors playing at the highest level this season, the City of Angels were/are looking forward to both teams seeking to go far in the postseason.
Joining the LA Clippers, Kawhi was coming off of a championship season with the Toronto Raptors. With him deciding to join the Clippers along with joining Paul George, many fans and insiders automatically looked at their roster as championship contenders. And with Kawhi having the favor in LA, LeBron will try to have an answer for that.

King James still had three more seasons to bring a championship to the Lakers after the first one was a failure. After starting the season hot and on a rise to be the NBA’s best, LeBron’s injury impacted the rest of the team horrifically as he sat out 27 games which caused the team to miss the playoffs once again.
Now with a fresh season for both teams, the LA showdown continues to be a story as both franchises look to make it out the West this year. Both stars have the capability of making things happen in the postseason. But the one important for these players to have is team contributions to provide great effort on both ends to get either team far in the playoffs.
Looking at the Clippers, they had all the supporting cast a team could have prior to the NBA season being suspended. They had two Sixth Man of the Year candidates in Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell along with some key players in Patrick Beverley, Marcus Morris, etc. Despite the team being right behind their rival Lakers in the Western standings, many thought that the Clippers would be too much for the Lakers in the playoffs due to their overwhelming depth.
The Lakers have LeBron and Anthony Davis leading the way so far. With both stars, they were rolling through the West and had been looking to have homecourt advantage through the first three rounds of the playoffs. With that said, the Lakers’ role players were a question at times. Besides Javale McGee and Dwight Howard, other Laker players have been rather inconsistent.
Danny Green, Avery Bradley, Kyle Kuzma, and others have shown much inconsistency all year long. With the other players not contributing on a nightly basis, it could cost the Lakers in the playoffs and force them not to be crowned champions by the end of the season.
Ways that the Lakers’ contributions can improve is to look to be assertive on both ends. The Lakers are a great defensive team so looking to make a stop on one end always leads to more opportunities to get a basket. With everyone engaged on the floor and making plays, the Lakers could potentially become a bigger threat than they are with their role players making the contributions needed.
Both LeBron and Kawhi will make a huge push in this year’s postseason (if there is one). Both players were having spectacular years and they’ve dominated the west for a vast majority of the season. It will be interesting to see them face off in the playoffs against one another and see which superstar will come out on top of the series.
Whichever superstar wins an NBA championship first in the City of Angels will be crowned the King in LA. We’ve seen Kawhi in many commercials call LA “his town” so that easily sparks up the rivalry between the two. So far this season, Kawhi has dominated two games out of three meetings matched up against LeBron. But everyone knows when the playoffs roll around, it is a completely different story.
Hopefully, the NBA will come back very soon. With it being one month before the playoffs started when the hiatus hit, teams were finally getting into a groove as they pushed for a comfortable seed in their respective conferences.
If the NBA season returns, LeBron and Kawhi will both be ready to play once playoff time arrives. And with both stars getting their proper rest as of now, they may have a showdown for the ages if they face each other in the playoffs.
