Chicago Bulls: Dennis Rodman will get his spotlight next in ‘The Last Dance’
By Todd Dudas
Dennis Rodman is somewhat misunderstood, but hopefully, that will be cleared up as he gets his spotlight next in ESPN’s ‘The Last Dance.’
Dennis Rodman is one of the most misunderstood athletes and figures of our time. At times controversial for his odd spectacles. However, on the court, he was one of the best rebounders ever to play the game of basketball. Oh, and a five-time NBA Champion.
Early in his career, Rodman made his name with the Detroit Pistons. By putting his head down, working hard, and doing all the little things that many other players simply didn’t want to do, Rodman quickly stood out as one of the best defenders in the league.
He helped Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and Bill Laimbeer win back-to-back NBA titles while in Detroit during the 1988-90 seasons.

Known as the “Bad Boy Pistons,” Rodman fit seamlessly in Detroit. Those Pistons, with Rodman, were a bit reason why Michael Jordan failed to breakthrough in the Eastern Conference before the 1990s dynasty really took off.
During his career, Rodman would go on to win the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award twice. For seven seasons consecutively, Rodman was the NBA leader in rebounds per game and would even go on to average over 18 boards per game during the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons.
From all indications, it appears that the next portion of ESPN’s ‘ The Last Dance’ documentary will at least partially focus on Dennis Rodman, which hopefully showcases a side that the vast majority hasn’t seen in quite a while.
Hearing whichever Rodman story that ESPN decides to tell will no question be interesting, especially in the point of view of his teammates and coaches. It’s an interesting exercise to think about how Rodman’s career would’ve unfolded in today’s limelight of social media.
Perhaps on Sunday night, we’ll get a little preview of that.
Dennis Rodman was another key cog to the Chicago Bulls during their second three-peat. He was the glue-guy to Michael Jordan’s and Scottie Pippen‘s dynamic duo. To some, he’s a legend. To all, he’s a champion. For those that don’t know the Dennis Rodman story, we’re about to get an up-close look at the player and, likely, person behind the legend.
