Summary: The Dallas Mavericks decide to add a back-up big man in the draft in Isaiah Stewart with their first-round draft pick. Stewart could also play alongside Kristaps Porzginis in a big lineup. The rest of their moves improve their wing and forward depth. They bring back former Mavericks Jae Crowder as a versatile option off the bench and add a shooter from the Pistons in Luke Kennard.

Crowder is a forward that provides veteran toughness and allows the Mavericks to give opposing teams different versions of their lineup. Kennard is still young and while he has been mostly underwhelming, he does have a ceiling to be a solid shooter especially given Rick Carlisle’s track record of being able to develop young talent.

Courtney Lee at the price he is retained is also worth it for Dallas and could provide a bit of a mentor to Luke Kennard. The Mavericks leave the door open to easily create cap flexibility in the 2021 off-season but do not go all-in on that attempt. Overall, Dallas already has their superstar in Luka Doncic so their goal is to build a team that fits around him.
