Summary: The Atlanta Hawks caught a break of luck by winning the draft lottery. For the draft, they decided to go with the consensus top player in Anthony Edwards (albeit an underwhelming consensus top player). Outside of the draft, they didn’t make a ton of shake-ups opting to keep their head coach while seeing the impact of recent acquisition Clint Capela.

After a reunion with Jeff Teague at the deadline, they opt to re-sign him as a veteran mentor backup to center core piece, Trae Young. Their two biggest signings fill some needs by overpaying for a shooter at the forward position in Davis Bertans and some toughness in the backcourt in Langston Galloway.

With Capela’s defensive presence and Bertans helping to spread the floor, the Hawks young core should be able to develop nicely in the 2020-21 season and Collins should play hard after his contract extension. Mostly, the Hawks will look to grow their existing talent with these moves with Lloyd Pierce likely on the hot seat if they fail to see progress moving forward.
