Orlando Magic

Roster

Head coach: Steve Clifford

2019-20 NBA season results:

  • Lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Milwaukee Bucks

Who they re-signed:

  • James Ennis re-signed to two-year, $4.6 million contract

Who they signed in FA:

  • Kent Bazemore signed to three-year, full mid-level exception contract
  • Raul Neto signed to a one-year league minimum contract

Trades they made:

  • James Johnson, Jarred Vanderbilt and 6th overall draft pick for Aaron Gordon and 16th overall draft pick
  • Mike Conley Jr. for James Johnson and Evan Fournier (multi-team trade involving Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards)

Who they drafted:

  • Drafted Obi Toppin, John Petty Jr.

Other moves:

  • Jonathan Isaac extended to a four-year, $94 million contract

Summary: The Orlando Magic are in major need of change and make some creative shake-ups here. While Aaron Gordon does have talent, he does not possess the skillset that meshes well with Jonathan Isaac. Obi Toppin’s offensive abilities should slide in next to Isaac nicely to create a solid young core with Markelle Fultz. Mike Conley Jr. did show some diminished skills in Utah this past season, but started to come together a bit recently and is a pros-pro veteran that should be a mentor for the young core while also breaking up the buddy duo of Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier.

Kent Bazemore provides a 3-and-D option off the bench from the wing position that should provide useful for their second unit.  Locking up Isaac seems inevitable as well which they accomplish reasonably. Overall mixing things up by adding to the Fultz and Isaac core with Toppin, removing Fournier, and adding a steady veteran hand in Conley to run the offense through should be a solid offseason for Orlando.
