10. Milwaukee Bucks – Darren Collison, UCLA
With the 10th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select Darren Collison.
Darren Collison is one of my favorite players to have had the pleasure of watching night in and night out when he was with Indiana from 2017-19. He is a very smart and well-rounded point guard. For his career, DC averaged 12.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, while posting 47-39-85 splits and a 16.2 PER. Collison was extremely reliable wherever he went and enjoyed a 10-year career because of it.
Collison was willing to adapt his play to whatever the needs of his team were, and that especially showed in his last two seasons with the Pacers. He was counted on as the guy to run the offense efficiently and create shots for other players, which he did very extremely well.
In his two seasons in Indiana, he averaged 5.7 assists per game, with only 1.5 turnovers, an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.8. John Stockton‘s career assist-to-turnover ratio was 3.75 for reference. Now I know this was only over two seasons as opposed to an entire career, but you can see my point.
And not only was DC a shot creator for others. Over his last four seasons, his 3-point percentage was 42.4 percent, and he led the league in 3-point shooting percentage in 2017-18 (46.8%). His game constantly got better with age.
