NBA: Stephen Curry headlines a redrafting of the 2009 draft class
14. Phoenix Suns – Patty Mills, Saint Mary’s
With the 14th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns select Patty Mills,
Patty Mills has had a very solid career. Especially after he found his home in San Antonio after his first two seasons in Portland. For his career, Mills averages 8.7 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game on 43-39-85 shooting splits, and a PER of 14.4.
Mills has become a guy who can come off the bench and have an immediate impact on the game, which was put on display in Game 5 of the 2014 NBA Finals. Mills came off the bench to score 17 points in a game that clinched an NBA Championship for the San Antonio Spurs.
And let’s not forget about the time that he basically single-handedly dismantled Team USA in the FIBA World Cup.
To this point in his career, Patty Mills has been a very good role player on some very good teams. He has played some very important minutes in big games, and he has a ring to show for it. In redrafting the class of 2009, Patty Mills finds himself in the lottery.
